MrJimHoman says: cool scribe post example from a pre-calc class in Winnipeg.

May 19, 2009 by Liz!
Today was our last full day of school! Like always we started class with prayer then we continued to watch the Jason Evert Pure Love Video. In the video Jason talked about how confession gives us the strength to treat women and men the way we should be treated. Jason also mentioned that you have to have faith and strength in God to live a chase life. Also, peace and joy come from chastity when you bring purity into a relationship. Jason sated that if there is anything that he wants us to remember is that God will always being looking at the things we do. After the video was over Homan started talking about “contraception action.” And the six things we should know about it. The six things are: prevents ovulation, thickens mucous, changes tube movement, abortifacient actions, interferes with communication, prevents implantation, and interferes with integrins. Our final for this class is on Thursday. :)

Today in class we began with prayer. We continued watching the Jason Evert Pure Love Video, this portion of the video talked about different ways girls dress. How they shouldn't do the short skirts and barely there clothes. He mentioned that these girls somewhere (i don`t remember where), made a letter saying that dresses were too promiscuous and they needed better dresses 1400 girls signed it. He also talked about different types of flirting (throwing rocks in 2nd grade, notes in 4th and so on). He also talked about how the most common STD is HPV because it is transmitted from touching the body (of stomach or chest areas etc.), so condoms can`t prevent it. Finally he siad that there wasn't enough info out about STDs because most teens didn't know what the highest STD was (HPV). The next scribe is Liz.

Today we started class with prayer. Then we started watching the Jason Evert pure love video, it is the same presentation we saw freshman year but since everyone likes it so much we get to watch it again. Today in the video it even mentioned something about emotional grooming. Jason's fiance talks about how she was bad when she was younger and then she went to a "sex talk" and it really inspired her to be good. So everytime after that when she was tempted to be bad she just wrote a letter to her future husband. Even though she made bad decisions in her younger days, Jason still loves her for who she is and because she promised to not make anymore mistakes after that. Jason urges everyone to take a vow of chastity. He says that if we remain virigins and take care of ourselves we are more likely to stay married and not get divorced. We will get to finish watching this movie on Monday and the next scribe post is Sam.

May 14, 2009
Today we started class with prayer. Then the rest of class we watched video clips from the weather man, enough, and cruel intentions. And we applied the emotional grooming tactics to the videos.

May 13, 2009 Today Salvador brought joe gel, so we could gel his hair, but he didn’t want to do it. After that we did prayer. Then we kept reading the packet. Today we read about the nine grooming tactics: jealousy and possessiveness, insecurity, intimidation, anger, accusations, flattery, status, bribery, and control. After saying we should watch some movies that have these grooming tactics, mr. homan told us we were going to watch video clips of this . so then we watched video clips of Aladdin, the princess diaries, the wedding crashers, the weather man. next scribe post is: lauren

Well as usual we started with prayer. We went to Mr. Jim Homan.com and went to the chapter 9 and went to the boundries Explanations and we read about what happens when your boundries are too open and when they are way too closed. Then we got the packet that Mr. Homan gave us about sexual predators and what they are trying to do. The packet talks about real life predators and what they say to lure NAIVE people to them. We read the examples of the what the creepers say to kids and how they try to take advantage of them. We also talked about in the packet about saying NO. It is very important to say NO because if someone is trying to get your number or where you live those are signs that should tell you to end it there. Mr. Homan also talked about instances where girls on his soccer team said NO to guys they didn't like. Then we talked about geling Joe F. hair.

May 11, 2009
Today we started with prayer. We downloaded a picture that looked like a target and filled in the circles with who our closest friends were, people we talked to, and people we barely knew. We learned that the number of people goes down the closer you get to you. We read some stuff about boundaries on MrJimHoman.com. The best thing we did was this awkward demonstration where Liz, Joe, myself (nick) were standing in a virtual elevator. A creeper named Stephen came and invaded our boundaries and made things really weird by getting really close and staring us in the eyes. And that was about all we did.

May 8, 2009
Today we did something different and started with prayer. We talked about the blogs a little and then we read some more in the packet about Grooming. We learned that groomers talk about trust a lot and we learned ways to prevent grooming. We also learned that Biggie Smalls was a groomer, based on the movie Notorious. The next scribe post is Nick

May 7, 2009 by Mike
WE started off class with prayer as usual. After prayer, we talked about the Blogs that we started. A lot of people couldn’t post theirs because of problems, so we got help from MR. Homan to fix the problems. After we got our blogs up, Mr. Homan gave us a packet on Grooming. We went over the characteristics of a groomer, and who it could be. WE discussed why we shouldn’t post personal info on the internet and why it can be used against us. Also we went over what we are looking for in a relationship. The Next Scribe is Nick

May 5-6, 2009 by Stephen
Class on the 5th began with prayer, which seems to have become some sort of tradition or something. After that, we conversed about online safety and safety online, and other related things. After that, Mr. Jim Homan assigned us to partner up with a partner and come up with a list of 10 do's and don'ts for online safety (complete with sources) and post them on Mr.JimHoman.com. Due tomorrow, which would be yesterday today.

On the 6th, we surprisingly opened class with prayer. After that, we went through the previous day's (2 days ago now) assignment, and were thus able to learn everything we could possibly desire about being safe online. After that, Mr. Jim Homan gave us a speech about blogs and also gave us an assignment, in which we are supposed to create a blog and update it every day for 5 days. It's a pretty interesting assignment, I must say. After that, we spent the rest of the class working on making these blogs. The next scribe rhymes with Bike Gleeman.

Today we began by praying for just about every spring sport. Then we went to wetpaint and went over the comments about the To Catch A Predator video. Then we watched a couple different videos from Frontline about how teens today are growing up online and how parents are really out of the loop. Teens don’t want to let their parents into their online life because its their personal life and they don’t want them butting in. Then we went and checked Mr. Homan’s niece’s facebook to see what she should and shouldn’t have on there. The next scribe is Joe W
April 20, 2009 by: Ryan
Today in class we looked at Dateline NBC’s web site and looked at a story about “To Catch a Predator”. After this we went to wetpaint and made a comment about the story that we just read. After that we discussed that we should never ever park next to a creeper van in a parking lot. We then talked about how Kevin does not have a facebook because he does not want to be stalked. At the end we read over the comments people posted on wetpaint and talked about them for a little bit. The next scribe will be Corben.

April 29, 2009 by: Mandi
Today we started class with prayer as usual. Then Mr. Homan intorduced us to chapter 9 we layed down some ground rules. We then went to mrjimhoman.com and talked about Telos which means finding purpose. We then did an activity to help us understand telos. Five people found five different objects around the room. Homan asked us what their purpose was. After that he asked us something else it could be used for that was NOT an intended purpose. We then wathced dateline: how to catch a predator. In Bowling Green, Kentucky a group of pepole set up online profile of "young girls" to try and lure predators to their "house." Creepily enough a lot of older men actually went to the house. When they arrived the police would then arrest them. One man was actually tasered.

April 28, 2009 by Kimmey
On Tuesday, we finished the powerpoint that we went over yesterday in class. We learned about the venial sins and we talked about the different ways that social sins are performed. Some ways are by approving or dismissing a bad situation. Mr. Homan talked about the wrongs of toilet bombing and through his example we learned that by not stopping something bad that you know will happen can also be a sin. When we continue these actions, we can eventually lead to "structures of sin" in society. We also learned about the 7 Capital sins and talked about the differences of pride and anger. You're not committing a capital sin if you are taking pride in the fact that you're daughter is the lead scorer in a soccer game. However, you are if you brag about how good she is. It's the same with anger. It is alright to be angry but when you go to extremes and only seek revenge, then you are commiting a capital sin. The next scriber post person writer is Mandi.

April 27, 2009 by Grant
Monday we started class with prayer. Then we asked Franny how she won the smart car from the celebration. Next we went over the chapter 6 power point found on mrjimhoman.com and filled in blanks. We learned that Pesha means "a willful violation of God's law." The Catechism of the Catholic Church says that sin alienates us from ourselves and hardens our hearts. We found out that sin is like zombies, the disease spreads quickly. Years ago in the church the people use to face the West and push away the darkness and then face the East to welcome the light. The next scribe writer will be Kim.

April 23, 2009 by Kelsey
On Thursday Mr. Homan was not in class so we had a sub. Our assignment was to complete the original sin and scripture search worksheets in the chapter 6 section of mrjimhoman.com for Monday. The worksheets required us to look up certain scriptures and answer questions about what was read. And that was basically all there was for Thursday so the next scribe will be Grant.

April 20,2009
We started class off with prayer. We then had to write our names on pieces of paper for a new method of picking readers. We folding the paper like a book, again, again, again, again, and again. We then read the conscience formation mark of the conscience packet as the people in the back of the classroom drew names our of the recycling bin. We discussed that we had to follow our conscience and that we are responsible for having an informed conscience. We then went on to tell about what we would do if we heard someone slandering another one of our classmates. Would we let it slide or tell them to stop? We then finished the conscience packet with the summary. If you need to refer to this summary the you can go to Mr.JimHoman.com and look at the conscience packet under chapter 5. We then concluding class with study for the chapter 5 test. WE HAVE A TEST TOMORROW!!!!!!!! You know what else is coming up? Kelsey doing the scribe post. That's what's coming up!

TEST TIME!!

April 17, 2009
We started with prayer, and then we went to Wetpaint and went over our types of conscience scenarios. We went over the situation and then tried to decide which type it was: type 1 - fear, type 2 – need to please and type 3 – Christian conscience. It was pretty easy on most of the situations to figure out the type, however on Kelsey’s we had a question as to which it was. We were going to ask her but she wasn’t in class, so we sent her a text, luckily had her cell Phone so we could get the number. We went on and did the rest of the conscience types and watched a Goonies clip for Katie’s type and a Star Wars clip for Mikes type.

Yesterday, class started of with prayer. We then read and discussed a part of the conscience packet on mrjimhoman.com. Next we talked about the implications worksheet that we had completed on Wednesday. We had a class discussion about our answers. The point of the activity was to realize that all actions have implications. We also talked about the three different types of conscience. Type 1 is fear and the most inmature. Type 2 is the "need to to please" type. Type 3 is the christian conscience and is the most mature and morrally right. Our assignment is to come up with a situation and post it on wetpaint for the class to guess which type it is. The next scribe shall be Sam.

Today we started off class with prayer. Then we went to Mr. Jim homan.com and looked at the conscience packet. We learned that our consicience is like an inner voice that helps us decide what is right from wrong. We also talked about a situation where somone hit another car and was being bothered by his conscience. Then we took the conscience servey from the conscience worksheet. In the servery the questions asked If something is right for me if I think it is right, In making moral decisions, sincerity is all that matters, and No one has the right to judge my actions right or wrong. We then discussed these questions by having the class stand by a sign which stated if they agreed or disagreed.
April 3, 2009

Friday in class we started off with prayer. After prayer we went to mrjimhoman.com and downloaded the conscience worksheet and filled it out. After we were done filling it out we talked about it in class. We first talked about the pressure of getting good grades from either studying or cheating. After that we talked about when a friend offers beer or marijuana and whether you decide to take it or decline it. While talking about these we went off track and started talking about pruning tree branches that we do not need after we do not use them for a while. The next scribe post will be Kevin.

April 2, 2009

As always we started with a wonderful prayer for all of the sports teams, sick people, etc. We looked at a website with all these trippy optical illusions for most of the period in order to learn about subjective norm and objective norm. My favorite was of the spinning silhouette that would sometimes switch directions. The next scribe post is Ryan.

Today we went over the John Q questions. During our review of the questions, Mr. Homan got a map out so we could learn where India was. Kim and Mandi held the Map up and we look at the location of India. It is about half the size of the US. We were looking at a Peters Projection Map, which is better than a Mercator Projection. We also looked at the size of Alaska compared to the US. The next scribe will be Schnicholas Pickolaus.

As repeatedly stated in 98.9% of the previous scribe posts, we started off class with prayer. We finished John Q in class today. We left off right after John was shot in the shoulder. John comes to the radically impractical conclusion that he must give his own heart in order to save his son. The doctor strongly refuses to perform such an operation at first, but eventually comes to the conclusion that if John was dead, he would use his heart in order to save his son. Upon the same time the operation is about to start, another transplant operation is being performed and the heart that is being taken out is to go to the next recipient on the donor's list, which is mike. The first time John tries to shoot himself for the operation, the ridiculously improbable event that the safety lock on the gun was on (ha, yeah right). Mike's mom tries to walkie-talkie John, but he turns it off. So, she runs in desperation to the emergency room door to let them know that they have the heart for mike. John is convicted for attempted murder, showing armed criminal action, and kidnapping and false imprisonment, but is only found guilty of kidnappingand false imprisonment. John is forced to serve some time in jail, but is ultimately happy that Mile is ok. We had a small discussion at the end of class about what we thought of the movie. The neckst skerybe will be the free man Michael.

Today we started off class with prayer. After that we went to mrjimhoman.com and downloaded the John Q Questions. We filled out the first twelve tothirteenquestions. Then we started to watch the movie again. In the movie the hostages and john q talk about hospitals and how they turn away patients without insurance. John found otu that the doctors probablydidn'tdoenoughtests on mike because he didnt have full coverage insurance. In the E.R. room mitch attacks john q with some spray but john fights him off. the news team hacks into the lieve feed that the cops have inside the hospital and air it on live tv. The policesergeantdecides to go over lt. grimes and send a sniper into the e.r. room The sniper shoots john in the shoulder and Mr. Homan ends the movie at a really bad time.

We started off class with prayer like always. Once again Corben and I had to listen to Salvador telling us to move our desk back. After prayer we continued watching the movie John Q. Today during the movie John and his wife were told that they could either give Mike a heart transplant or he could go home, but he would probably die in a few weeks or months. They decided on the transplant, but they found out that it cost a huge amount of money that they couldn't afford. Their insurance would not cover the surgery since John was only working part time. John tried everything to try to get his son the heart transplant. He sold almost everything in his house, but he still did not have the right amount of money. He begged the hospital to give his son the heart transplant because he said they make so much money it wouldn't hurt them doing just one for free. the doctors would not give in. John finally decided to hold the doctor at gunpoint. He said if the doctor did not give his son the heart transplant he would kill him. John locked everyone up in the emergency room and said that everyone was getting their health care for free. We ended the movie today with the police surrounding the hospital and talking to John through a walkie talkie.
No one has fallen asleep during the movie yet, so we don't have to take notes. The next scribe will be Corben.

Today we did prayer at the beginning of class. Then some people said the beatitudes that were not here on friday, after that Mr. Homan checked all of our chapter four review questions, they are worth 75 points. For the assignment, Franny made up the worst excuse possible, saying her window was open during the storm last night and her laptop got struck by lightning, but it is a miracle because now her laptop works all of a sudden. And still everyday we have to deal with Salvador trying to convince Lauren and Corben to move their desk back, but they won't, salvador should just give up. Also, Salvador thinks I am mad at him because Franny told me to give him mean looks and now he thinks I am mad. Here's an update on Sam's sickness: his voice is still a little scratchy, but it is getting better. While Mr. Homan was checking people's questions, everybody was looking at the beatitudes posters. We need to read chapter five and Mr. Homan said it's about our conscience and we will feel guilty if we do not read it. Then we watched a movie called John Q, it is a story about a working man that had problems and it is very much a current thing going, his son is real sick and he has a lot of pressure and has to make a choice of what to do.
the next scribe post will be lauren.

March 18, 2009 By Margaret
We started off class with prayer. Then Mr. Homan told about Liz's hilarious fall at soccer practice. We then turned to pages 103-104 in our books and read about the beatitudes in different accents. Mr Homan then told us what we just read because we missed it with the accents. We were then informed that we have to memorize the beatitudes by Friday to recite orally. It will be worth 200 points. Then we downloaded a worksheet called Am I a Beatitude Person and answered the questions. After this, we went to a new website called glogster.com. We have to post our last question from the worksheet with this site. It will probably be due Monday. The next scribe will be Kate.

March 12, 2009 - Liz K Today in class we started it off with prayer time. Then we opened our books to page 93 and read about Natural law. Natural law teaches us what to do and what to avoid. Next we went on google and typed in Matthew Robinson Sarpy Accident and read over different articles about this accident. Homan told us that our actions can either be moral or civil. Moral actions are more for if something we did as right or wrong. Civil actions are more for when you get in trouble with the law such as speeding or jaywalking. We then decided for the story that the Moral Object was driving 101 MPH and recklessly driving. The intention was to get away from the car following them. The circumstances: Who? Kyle Lavigne, Matthew Robinson, and Jacob Hurd. When? December 28, 2006 Where? Near 180th and Plattview Road. How? Speeding while under the influence of alcohol. Kev is the next scribe!
March 10, 2009
today as you all know we had one of the most successful parties ever planned on the face of the earth. everyone remembered except corben and grant, who did not get to eat with us. so we started class as usual with prayer, and when that was over the party started. we got to get our food in the order that we posted on wetpaint. everything was going fine and dandy then suddenly the crash of marge's crock pot sent the entire room into complete and total silence. after cleaning up the mess we then settled down to enjoy our God Party. when the most of us were done eating Homan went over our posts about abuses of freedom. we talked about the similarites between fear and duress. salv brought up the text that said if he didnt send it to 10 people he would die in 50 days, so we had a discussion about that, was that fear or duress? i think we decided on fear. we finished going through those until the bell rang. The next scribe is liz k

March March 9, 2009 Kimmey - Today in class we started off by making sure that everyone in class will bring their food for the God Party. The line has been drawn and the point has been made clear that anyone who decides to not bring their food or treat for the party tomorrow will suffer harsh consequences including 100 push ups and other not so fun stuff. Then we started reading the Responsibility section on page 86. We learned that people are to take responsibilty for their actions. We should take responsibilty for our false actions. Then after reading Mr.Homan told us a story about his daughter's basketball game. The game sounded pretty intense. It ws pink team against purple team. I think it somehow tied in with taking responsibility. Then on page 84 we learned about the Abuses of Freedom, defining Ignorance, Inadvertence, Duress, Inordinate attachments, and Fear. Then we went to theo3b.wetpaint.com under Chapter 3. We are to do the Abuses of Freedom activity under chapter 3. The next scribe is Amanda.

March 6, 2009 Joe F · Today we decided to plan a GOD Parrrtaaay for Tuesday. We went over our Kevin Tunell assignment, and learned that we have a logical excuse for making bad choices (Blame it on your pre frontal cortex). We also learned that if Kate is smiling, she’s lying. We also went over our Freedom and Good Law worksheets. The next scribe is Kimmey

March 4, 2009 Scribe Post by Grant

For class today we started off with prayer as usual. Then Mr. Homan brought in the tv to watch a show. The show was called The Kevin Tunell Story. It was about a 17 year old boy that was drunk and driving and he crashed into an 18 year old girls car and instantly killed her. His punishment was to community service and write a check for 1 dollar to the parents of the girl that died every friday for the next 18 years. Several times he couldn't meet the requirments for the checks and he had to go to jail for 30 days. After the movie was over Mr. Homan told us to go to Theo3b. wetpaint.com and said that there was an assignment in the chapter 3 folder for the movie we just watched and it is due on friday. The next scribe is Joe F.

March 3, 2009 by Marge

The class was started off with prayer; what else. After prayer, Mr. Homan had a blue note to give out and Liz was the lucky reciepient. Then we went through the remaining MIC assignments. We then proceeded to finish the ppt notes on Mr. Homan's super cool power point. Then we opened our books and read a story about a man (who's name I can't remember) and answered the questions about his situation. We used the STOP method in answering them. Mr. Homan then wrote E and R on the board and said that humans were the best at making up excuses. He started talking about getting a speeding ticket and his recent experience with his STOP class. The whole class then started talking about people being idiots on the road and their funny stories. After this discussion Mr. Homan had us stand up and read different situations aloud. We had to either make a V or an R depending on what we thought about the situation. The next Scribe is Grant.

March 2, 2009

We started off class with prayer. Then, we listened to everyones Mic articles which varied from a teen hotwiring a bus to a man throwing a cat into a crowd. Liz thought she was funny and copied everybody's articles like a thousand times. Then we went over power point notes where we talked about being considerated of others. We also talked about prayer, when we pray and seek answers it helps us to make the right choices in our daily lives. We now have completed the "Stop" and the next Scribe in Margaret.

February 26th, 2009
Today in class we started off with prayer. Next, we listened to Stephen's voice thread scribe post. It was pretty awesome, but he kind of sounded like a big creeper. Then we watched a video of Curly from the 3 stooges on youtube. We then discussed voice thread comments. After that Mr. Homan explained directions for our MIC activity. We talked about circumstances of certain situations and tried to decide if they were moral or not. Mr. Homan's example was about Siamese twins. If someone wanted to separate them so that they could live a normal life, the intention is good. But if the circumstances (who, how, and where) are not right, then it is immoral. The next scribe is thee Krispy Kevin.

February 20, 2009
Alright so we started with prayer. Then we went to Dr. Thursdays website and read over everyones (who posted) post. Lauren wrote something about Spongebob and we talked about that for a little. We went on to talk about abuse of power and Salvador brought Caesar and how he abused his power. That reminded Kelsey about Batman and how there is a scene where they talk about Caesar, so we tried to get Mr. Homan to find the clip on Youtube but he couldn't. So we talked about blogigng and articles online for a little. We had five minutes left and Mr. Homan went back on Youtube and we watched the Batman the Dark Knight trailer and and Kindergartner Dark Knight trailer (you should watch it if you missed it). And that was basically it. The next scribe post will be...... Stephen K(highlight the blank space).

Well let's see..today in class we quickly began with a prayer. After that the class read about subsidiarity on page 44 in the text book. Subsidiarity is a rule that upholds the rights of lower-ranked peoples. We listed a few examples on the board. I think the class would agree that the godfather and hit man example was the best..probably becuase of Mr.Homan's great impersonation! The class assignment for tomorrow is to read Dr. Thursday's blog on subsidiarity and to post an intelligent comment. The next scribe will be.....Sam.

February 18, 2009

Today in class we started off with prayer and some jokes. Homan was very PUNny. Then we moved on with taking powerpoint notes off of homan's cool circle things on the projector. They talked about how males and females are uniquely made in God's image. They talked about how males and females are made for eachother. We also made a list of poeple that we thought were "good" and "evil". We even watched Batman and talked about if he was good or evil. I attempted to make a poll so you could vote but fail miserably. Then Homan hunted me down today and and told me that he made a wicked one for me. Homan also denied Kelsey request to watch Batman in class. I also think that watching Batman in class would teach us a lot about morality. We finished our power point notes talking about how humans are good and how God gave his only son for us. I think that this concluded the Homan's class.

I think that the next scribe post should be the one and only Kelsey .
Sorry i have no joke like Franny

February 17,2009

Well first off I would like to say that I'm very sorry I have not updated when I was suppose to. Yesterday we started off class with a prayer which was nothing out of the ordinary. After saying prayer we looked at out comics project. We looked at our comparissions of St. Maximillian and Eleni. Each group stood up in front of the clas and presented our projects. After presenting we looked at Mr.Jim Homan's really really really super cool presentation on The gift of being human. We talked about how God didn't have to create us but he did. We talked about how we were created to return God's love and serve him. Over all Class was great! I would also like to add that the reason that I haven't posted was because I have short term memory loss and it just slipped my mind. Lastly I'd like to leave you with a joke....

Forest Gump and St. Peter

When Forest Gump died, he stood in front of St. Peter at the Pearly Gates. St. Peter said, "Welcome, Forest. We've heard a lot about you."

He continued, "Unfortunately, it's getting pretty crowded up here and we find that we now have to give people an entrance examination before we let them in."

"Okay," said Forest. "I hope it's not too hard. I've already been through a test. My momma used to say, 'Life is like a final exam. It's hard.' "

"Yes, Forest, I know. But this test is only three questions. Here they are."

1) Which two days of the week begin with the letter 'T'?"

2) How many seconds are in a year?

3) What is God's first name?

"Well, sir," said Forest, "The first one is easy. Which two days of the week begin with the letter 'T'? Today and Tomorrow."

St. Peter looked surprised and said, "Well, that wasn't the answer I was looking for, but you have a point. I give you credit for that answer."

"The next question," said Forest, "How many seconds are in a year? Twelve." "Twelve?" said St. Peter, surprised and confused. "Yes, sir. January 2nd, February 2nd, March 2nd …"

St. Peter interrupted him. "I see what you mean. I'll have to give you credit for that one, too."

"And the last question," said Forest, "What is God's first name? It's Andy."

"Andy?" said St. Peter, in shock. "How did you come up with 'Andy'?"

"I learned it in church. We used to sing about it." Forest broke into song,

"Andy walks with me, Andy talks with me, Andy tells me I am His own." St. Peter opened the gate to heaven and said, "Run, Forest, Run!"

We started off class with prayer as usual. Then we looked at a sribe post from another blog that had pictures that some of us couldn't see, but then we looked at it on Mr. Homan's computer. Mr. Homan wants us to be more creative for our posts. Mr. Homan says we're going to have a scribe post hall of fame. After that, we went to mrjimhoman.com and you first click on morality, then go to eleni/chapter 1 activity. Then you have to do the activity. Mr. Homan used an example on page 44 he used the third point and explained it and then said how it related to Eleni and Kolbe. Our paragraphs have to start out on page number 32 it says.... This is explained in the directions for the assignment. And make sure you have your Eleni questions done because he checks them during class. Instead of just reading page 48-49 about Kolbe, if you want you can look more stuff about him online. The next scribe is Franny Filippelli

Today in class we went over the Eleni questions that we did on Friday. Everyone had to put 2 answers online and we went through all the answers in class. After we finished we opened up our books and read about the life of St.Maximilian Kolbe a priest in Poland. Fr. Kolbe founded a ministry devoted to Mary in Poland and founded one in Japan as well. During WWII Fr. Kolbe was sent to Auschiwitz and when a prisoner escaped and they forced 10 prisoners to starve as punishment. A prisoner named Sgt Gajovniczek was selected but he yelled about having a family and Fr. Kolbe volunteered to take his place. Fr. Kolbe encouraged the other 9 to pray to the Blessed Virgin Mary for strength and Fr. Kolbe and 3 others survived for 3 weeks before they were killed by the Nazis. There were 3 miracles in the story one was that the nazi officer allowed them to switch, that they survived 3 weeks without food, and that when the atomic bomb was dropped in Japan his missionary was undamaged. The next scribe is Kate.

Today in class we started talking about how Nicolas Gage was a real person. After that we talked about torture of the feet. We then finished the movie. At the end, all of the people from the village escape on a truck. Nick goes back to his grandmother’s house back in Leigh. Katis orders all of the relatives of the people who escaped to be locked up. Katis tortures Eleni and sends her to trial. Katis charges Eleni with planning the escape. Anna steps up and says that Eleni tried to bribe her with American money. Katis orders all of the “traitors” death by firing squad. Nick talks to one of the survivors of the war who saw his mother die. She tells Nick that his mother’s last words were “my children.” Nick goes to go see Katis at his apartment. Nick sits down to talk to Katis and asks him if he remembers his mother. Katis tries to tell Nick he doesn’t remember and Nick pulls a gun on Katis. Nick cannot kill Katis so he leaves Greece and leaves the black stone behind. Nick returns to America. The next scribe is C-BO.

In the beginning of class we went over what Nick had wrote for the scribe. then we watched Eleni. In the movie Katis gathers everyone in the church, and tells them that they should let their children go to other people in other countries. He does this so that he can have leverage over the parents. None of the parents give up their kids, and Katina is shot for standing up to Katis. Then the movie goes back to present, and Nick finds Ana Katubis. She tells him that she didnt have any choice in confessing against his mother. Ana tells Nick about the judge, Stavros Petrakis, who is Katis, and tells him that Katis is in Greece again. In another flashback, Eleni makes a plan for escape, and is called to do work detail. As she leaves she gives Nick a black stone and says to never return. After Eleni leaves, the people escape, and the guards that chased them were blown up. The next scribe is Ryan .

First we went over Joe's scribe post, then a quick review over what happened during the movie, Eleni. In the movie today Nick receives a phone call from a childhood friend named Antoni Makos. Nick catches up with Makos and Makos tells him about a man named Tasso Sleventis who was a soldier in the Greek civil war and might have been connected to his mother's death. Nick finds Sleventis, who is now a pimp, behind a bar and forcefully questions him. Sleventis says that he had nothing to do with his mother's torture and death. Sleventis reveals that the deed was ordered by a judge name Katis, who is living in Bratislava, Czechoslavakia. In a flashback, word reaches the village that communists are on their way. So the monarchist men pack up and cheese it out of there. The communists under the leadership of Spiro, the man who Eleni hid from the monarchists "liberate" the village. They kick Eleni and her children out of their house and take their food. They also demand that the oldest daughter from each house join their army. In desperation, Eleni and her mother burn Olga, the oldest daughter's, leg so she wouldn't have to go to war. Spiro exempts Olga but forces Glykeria, the second oldest, to join in her place. In another flashback the monarchists return, invade the vilage, and attack with mortars and machine guns. We leave off with Katis standing in a room facing away from the door with Spiro standing behind him, looking like he's about to suck up to Katis. Tomorrow's scribe is Mike on his sweet new computer.
